[Basic] Copy and Paste via Notepad

Copy and Paste is one of the simplest thing you can do in a computer. CTR+C or select the area, right click, copy and CTR+P or right click and paste. I wish I could have done it in real life as I can keep a copy of the things I love with me. Why note pad come in between copy and paste?

One of the thin I have notice is if you are directly copy and paste something from a rich text, HTML content it will copy lot of other stuff that you do not want.

For example, text decorations, font type, background colour, html tags, hyper links and there can be so many other stuff that you do not want. If you paste directly to a place that support rich text or html it will bring all these with it. If it is your email pasted part will look different to your original email content. If it is your blog copy and pasted part will have different font type, colour to you blog theme.

Notepad is the simplest solution to this. Notepad is not supporting rich text or HTML content. So it will drop all these background information that you copied and paste only the text. Then Copy the text again from the notepad and paste it on the place you want the content to be. In that way you will not copy any background information to your new location.

So next time when you do a copy and paste from rich text or HTML remember this simple hack to use the notepad in between to copy and paste only the text not the other information.

You can easily block list of URLs (websites) with out using any software. I have tried this in windows XP and it works fine.

Why you should block any websites?

1. Even it is your personal computer there is great chance of going to these nasty website that install adwares, spywares and all these unwated stuff in your computer. Some websites are using banner advertisements from different websites. These websites should be blocked.

2.You might be managing couple of uses or computers and you don’t want them to go to certain URLs.

Cool if any of these are your requirement then you can follow this. Secret is in the C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\.

Path might be different from windows version or the way you install your windows.

You will find couple of files there; protocol, service, network and host. File you will be required is host (there is no extension for that file). If you don’t find it you can create it (Right click > new > create a text document and remove the extension).

Create exact file and add any number of URL in the same format (127.0.0.1) and save it. Sometimes you might have to restart the machine but it worked for me without restarting.

Cool all the URLs listed there will be blocked.

Folder Options Missing????

Open Run and then type "gpedit.msc".
Now goto User Configuration > Administrative templates > Windows Component > Windows Explorer.
Click on Windows Explorer you will find the 3rd option on the right side of screen "Removes the Folder Option menu item from the Tools menu"
Just check it, if it is not configured then change it to enable by double clicking on it and after applying again set it to not configured.

How to avoid chkdsk disk scan at every time booting windows

Recently I received a problem from one of the readers on system run a chkdsk disk scan again and again at every time on booting windows.

Let’s see how we can solve the problem of disk scan running every time of boot on windows.

Fix:

Disc scan is one of the protective feature of windows which runs to clean any cross-links or bad sectors that may be generated because of the improper shutdown of windows due to some reason. So, when ever you shutdown your system in some improper way ,the next time you boot your windows you will see scan disk running which you can stop by pressing an key on time.

But in some cases as experienced by some of the windows users, disk scan runs every time they reboot, this happens because of the following reasons:


1. Improper shutdown(most common).

2. External hard drive or portable drive attached which causes scan disk to scan them at every reboot.

3. chkdsk was not allowed to be completed at the time of boot.

Above reasons are normally the most common reasons behind this problem, but none of them matches with your case then, you probably have a dirty volume on your hard drive which has some bad sectors which does not get repaired at the time of reboot.

So, at every reboot chkdsk tries to repair those dirty bits on those bad sectors on your hard drive in those specific partitions.

But, don’t worry as you can simply fix this problem of disc scanning at every reboot.

Just follow the procedure given below:

You need to do a manual chkdsk on all the partitions or physical hard drives.

1. Open start>>run and type “cmd”(without double quotes)

2. Type “chkntfs /x ”(without double quotes) For example: chkntfs /x d:

3. Run this command for all the partitions of your hard drive.

4. Reboot your computer properly it will not do a disk scan again.

Set User Logon Hours

You can restrict a certain user to only use the computer at a certain time interval. Let's say you have a username called Shekhor and you want Shekhor to access the computer only from 9AM - 9PM from Monday through Friday. You can do this by going to Start->Run and type in net user Shekhor /time:M-F,9am-9pm. For 24-hour time, you can replace the time with 09:00-21:00 instead. This will only allow the user to login during those hours on those days.

SPEED UP UR ACROBAT READER (ALMOST LIKE NOTEPAD)

1. Go to the installation folder of acrobat reader
(C:\program files\adobe\acrobat\reader\.. whatever)
